Boston venture capital outfit Breakaway has named a new president.

Tom Jump, who previously led advertising agency Leo Burnett Worldwide as executive vice president and global director, started at the company in January.

Jump takes over the role from Tim Marken, who left the firm to take the position of chief growth officer at Boston Globe Media Partners.

Breakaway invests in companies but also provides marketing support and assists startups in staffing up and building an identity as a brand.

The company has invested in local companies including dry-erase paint maker IdeaPaint; e-commerce startups Rue La La (which was acquired for $350 million) and M. Gemi; Fancred, the social network for sports fans; and alcohol delivery company Drizly, whose logo it helped redesign.
